JOSEPH L. FINSTEIN, MD

Biography
Dr. Finstein specializes in sports medicine including injuries of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, foot and ankle. He is currently the Vice-Chairman of Orthopedic Surgery at East Jefferson General Hospital. He regularly performs cutting edge technology procedures including arthroscopic surgery and robotic surgery. He is the team Orthopedic Surgeon for De La Salle High School and treats many athletes throughout the greater New Orleans area.
Prior to joining Pontchartrain Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, he assisted in the care of athletes from the Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers, Phillies, Soul and St. Joseph's University. Dr. Finstein attended Brandeis University where he played varsity basketball and was named Academic All Conference. He earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine where he was Treasurer of his class. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency at Hahnemann University Hospital/ Drexel University where he served as the Administrative Chief resident and won multiple awards including Most Outstanding Resident and Most Outstanding Resident Teacher. He concluded his medical training with a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University where he performed research that was presented nationally. He also served as an Orthopedic Consultant for both the NCAA Division I Women's Atlantic 10 Basketball Tournament and the Men's NCAA Division III National Soccer Tournament.
